ARB: Innovation. Environment. Investment.

ARB is an investment company that holds and manages a portfolio of private company, private equity fund and project equity investments.

ARB invests in environmental and renewable energy opportunities that accelerate the transition to a sustainable and clean economy.

About

ARB invests in environmental and renewable energy opportunities that accelerate the transition to a sustainable and clean economy.

ARB is an investment company that holds and manages a portfolio of operating wind assets as well as private company, private equity fund and project equity investments.  We invest in climate change driven sectors including renewable energy technologies and services, water technologies and services, waste to value, energy efficiency, biomass and biofuels, and sustainable agriculture.

ARB maintains a portfolio of early, mid, and late stage investments.  We seek to partner with established investment firms and other family offices in supporting promising companies, exceptional management teams and fund managers, and innovative public-private partnerships in our target sectors.  We hold wholly owned, majority and minority positions and often take board or observer seats. We also manage a number of related investments held personally by Harry Halloran, our Chairman and majority shareholder.

ARB’s executives provide deep operating experience and investment expertise in the clean technology and renewable energy generation, technology and services spaces.  Our most significant contributions to our portfolio companies are often meaningful connections at critical moments of a company's growth.

We also collaborate with our colleagues at our affiliate, American Refining Group, when engaging with biofuel and biomass opportunities to enhance our diligence and to provide our portfolio companies with access to industry expertise and selected project partnerships.

Values

We value the power of business to be a force of positive change for the environment.  We seek to partner with entrepreneurs and investment professionals who are reimagining and reinventing the ways that the world engages with and consumes energy, water, food and other precious resources.

ARB believes that business is a force of positive change and progress. We invest in companies that couple innovation with sound business models to address the substantial economic pressures and opportunities created by climate change. These businesses, whether they focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, clean water or sustainable soils address today's critical problems in unique and often novel ways. Their success is a win for ARB, our co-investors, management and employees. Importantly, it is also a clear win for the environment and future generations.

We value the commitment and passion of the management teams and employees at our companies, and that of the general partners managing the funds in which we are invested.  We are long term investors with long range vision.  We understand that meaningful and sustained change takes time.  We are committed to working with our companies through high spots and low spots in their pursuit of innovative, highly effective and cost compelling solutions to climate change.  We also place great value on collaboration with our co-investors and fund managers in bringing solutions to these problems in profitable, creative and novel ways.

Our affiliate, Halloran Philanthropies, is a founding supporter of B Lab, a non-profit confirmation body that certifies rigorous corporate standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.  ARB is proud that several of our portfolio companies, including 3Degrees, Harvest Power, and Natural Systems Utilities, are Certified B Corps.  We share the belief held by Halloran Philanthropies that profitable businesses that embrace a culture of considering all stakeholders – the customer, employee, community, investor and the environment – in their day-to-day decision making have the power to meaningfully address and benefit from the challenges and opportunities presented by the many facets of climate change.

Portfolio

Our diligence process is thorough, thoughtful and unhurried.  Such a process allows us time to understand business models deeply.  We like to spend time with management teams and existing and new investors to establish the seeds of a respectful, productive and constructive relationship.

ARB’s portfolio consists of early, mid and late stage investments.  Our current investment focus is on later stage companies with revenue and on small infrastructure projects.  We will lead or co-invest.  In our investment decision process we highly value co-investor engagement and perspective.  Our diligence process is extensive and unhurried.  Such a process allows us time to understand the business model deeply and to determine and confirm ARB’s fit with the management team and existing and new investors. And visa versa.  We understand that companies want to know what ARB values, how we might contribute to their success and what kind of partner we will be through the ups and downs of building a business.

ARB works closely with its portfolio companies, proactively identifying opportunities for growth and also responding to requests for specific assistance and support.  ARB looks to introduce our portfolio companies to each other where there may be scope for collaboration.

ARB seeks to enhance the financial returns and environmental impact of our investments through co-investing with like-minded funds and family offices that share our passions and values.
